The 2391-52 Inspection & Testing course covers both initial verification and periodic inspection & testing in one comprehensive qualification— perfect for electricians who want to gain the skills and certification needed to carry out inspection, testing, and certification of electrical installations safely and professionally.
You’ll learn the principles, practices, and legislation required for both initial verification of new installations and periodic inspection of existing systems. The course covers regulations and fully aligns with the BS7671 standard, replacing the previous 2394/95 qualifications.
This certification is also required to obtain your ECS Card as a graded approved Electrician, ensuring you meet industry standards and can work safely and professionally. The 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course includes:
Initial Verification:
- Procedures for verifying new electrical installations, and additions to existing installations, before being put into service.
- Completion of Electrical Installation Certificates (EIC) and associated documentation.
- Completion of Minor Electrical Installation Works certificates (MEIWC)
Periodic Inspection and Testing:
- Procedures for verifying the continued safety and performance of existing installations.
- Completion of Electrical Installation condition Reports (EICR) and associated documentation.
To achieve your 2391-52 Inspection and Testing qualification, these are the assessments you will complete:
- Online Exam: A 60-question multiple-choice test, open book, lasting 120 minutes.
- Written Assignment: An 80-minute paper with 4 short-answer questions.
- Practical Assessment: A 2.5-hour hands-on test, where you’ll carry out a full initial verification and periodic inspection of a 3-phase electrical installation, followed by completing all the required documentation.
These assessments are designed to test both your technical knowledge and your ability to apply it in real-world scenarios.
City & Guilds Registration and assessments are included.
Before starting the 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course, all candidates must complete a skill scan and meet the following requirements:
- Candidates must be 18 or older.
- Candidates must hold either a relevant Level 3 electrotechnical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations) or be enrolled on the Experienced Worker Route.
- Candidates must have the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (City & Guilds 2382).
- While not mandatory, it’s advisable to have at least 6 months of practical site experience to maximize learning and confidence.
